Popara (Bread Pudding)


According to the recipe which is old more than 100 years, popara (Serbian Bread Pudding) is made from an old corn bread mostly, and some times from wheat bread.

In the cooking pot chop up old bread, using the toughest, dried pieces. Cover with water, add salt and put it on the fire to cook. It is necessary to constantly mix the mass would not tanned. When you create a mass of gruel, add a teaspoon of pork fat or cream, but if you haven’t it, then add the milk.

Popara (Serbian Bread Pudding) was usually served to children for breakfast.
